Local drag-racer Dave Newcombe continued his team’s climb up the Pro-Stock class ladder this season at the finals held last week at Willowbank Winter Nationals.
Newcombe ended up fifth overall for the season, edging up the ladder from seventh in 2008.
At Willowbank Winter Nationals, he came third in the qualifying rounds, but was knocked out during racing.
The competition attracted the largest number of entrants to any drag meet outside the US, with more than 530 entrants across 10 types of competitions over four days. There were 17 cars trying to qualify for Pro-Stock.
The Village Motors MotorSports team will be back for the 2009-2010 season, which kicks off at Western Sydney on 13 September. The team will not be idle for the next few months, however.
According to a team spokesperson, they “will be stepping it up come next season”.
